The place is beautiful but the park grounds keeper is not a pleasant man. He's terse, rude, harasses people and clearly doesn't enjoy his job. There was no sign indicating that they only accept cash/check so when I left my debit payment information he showed up the next morning demanding a check. When we finally found one we were told he may not be able to accept it for no apparent reason. And Illinois doesn't believe that law enforcement and service families can camp for free on Memorial weekend when the camp isn't full? Happy Memorial Day if you served, they don't care.
So many pine trees!! We had full time shade and plenty of space for hammocks. There's also a nice playground.
"It is what it is." If you have an RV this is probably a great place. If you are tenting it, be prepared for some things. There is a group camp site and it may be occupied by a youth group (think loud teenagers) as it was the night we were there. This too made for a lot of competition for the toilet and shower facilities. Also, there are the RV electric sites. We experienced the sound of diesel engines pulling into the camp late at night. One also had the generator running. Some of our fellow tent campers had small children that were having a hard time at bedtime. I felt bad for the parents - I"ve been there. The security lighting was plentiful, to the point of it not being dark enough at night to be conducive for sleep. This is not "get away from it all" type camping.
Nauvoo is a great place to visit. I love it! Make sure to go, but also make sure your lodging or camping arrangements will meet your needs.
A beautiful, green place with a lot of religious historical importance. There is a sweet spirit here. Views of the Mississippi can't be beat.
It was $20/nt when we camped and you could just pay when park maintenance came around.
The facilities are pretty basic so be prepared. Either no hookups or electric only. Water is from a common spigot in the middle. Toilets in the electric campground are vault and the main bathroom doesn't have soap.
Amazing! Everyone is so friendly. The entertainment is awesome. You will definitely enjoy your experience.
