If I could give this place 10 stars I would. Our family just spent a few days in Nauvoo and just had a great experience. Spent some time in the temple, toured many of the different sites throughout the city, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience of being immersed in the memories and stories of our ancestors. The missionaries, both senior and the youth, are fantastic. There is a group of young men and young women in their late teens and 20's who perform in various ways throughout Nauvoo. I can't say enough about how much they enhanced the overall experience for us while in Nauvoo. The Trail of Hope experience was remarkable. I look forward to coming back again in 5-10 years.
The Visitor's Center has beautiful artwork, artifacts, sculptures, and a large scale model of historic Nauvoo. It also has touch screen stations with videos, photos, and other information available for people to use. At different times of the year, the theaters in the Visitor's Center will show films and/or live performances. They also provide maps and schedules of events and activities in Nauvoo, and have public restrooms and drinking fountains. Everything is offered free of charge. It's a great experience from a historical and spiritual standpoint.
We had a wonderful visit. So many neat displays, including the diorama depicting Nauvoo in the 1840's and a Sunstone from the original temple. The missionaries were friendly, knowledgeable and helpful.
Love this whole restored historic pioneer town. Missionary guides very helpful and informative. Interesting for those who are there for Mormon church history as well as just plain history buffs. Oxen rides, wagon rides, carriage rides, musical and theatrical programs, demonstrations of how they handmade all their supplies, samples of gingerbread cookies and homemade bread, fun pioneer games for the whole family to play. And all for free. Can't beat it.
We love this place. We go there planning to be just one our and we stayed for 12 hours. People so friendly and happy. A lot of history and places to see. My kids of all ages enjoyed the day at this place. And is free!
